About {my}dentist, Pyle Street, Newport

Welcome to {my}dentist Pyle Street, Newport. We have 2 clinicians on hand covering a variety of NHS, private and {my}options treatment plans including dentures, take home teeth whitening and our orthodontic service, Inman Aligners. Within our team we have Dr Barry Hickey who is a specialist Orthodontic following various training courses and the completion of a Masters degree in Orthodontics. Our Hygienists Ms Sarah Banks and Alison Whyler are also on hand to provide hygiene appointments. Our practice is a 3 minute walk from Drill Hall Road bus stop, with limited public car parking around the practice. If you have any questions or would like to book in for a consultation the team would love to hear from you. We welcome all patients to our practice and ensure all individuals are treated with the utmost care and attention from our highly skilled staff. We look forward to seeing you soon.


Our practices are open for dental treatments and you should continue to attend all pre-booked dental appointments. If you wish to join the practice as a new patient please contact us to find out the status of our NHS capacity and the alternative services we are able to offer at this time. Due to us having to operate within strict government guidance NHS services are only available subject to capacity. When attending our practices, please wear a face covering, attend alone if possible and arrive on time for appointments. Do not attend if you, or anyone you live with, has symptoms of Covid-19, has tested positive, or has been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test & Trace.

Meet the team at {my}dentist, Pyle Street, Newport

Your clinicians

  • Dr.Barry Hickey Qualified from: BDS University of Glasgow 2005 United Kingdom, 2005 GDC No: 85425
    In 2000 Barry was awarded an Honors degree in Microbiology from the University of Cork, Ireland. He then moved to Scotland to begin studying dentistry, graduating in 2005 with a commendation. The following years were spent gaining general practice experience before returning to hospital for training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Children’s Dentistry and complex Restorative care. During that time Barry continued his studying a gained an MFDS from the Royal College of Surgeons & Physicians of Glasgow in 2007. In 2008 Barry was accepted onto the highly competitive Wessex Deanery Orthodontics training course and spent the following three years in full time training to become a Specialist Orthodontist. In the course of his training Barry was awarded a Masters degree in Orthodontics from the University of Bristol and the Specialist Orthodontist qualification of MOrth from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2011. Barry began working as a Specialist Orthodontist on the Isle of Wight in 2011 and has happily remained there since.
  • Dr.Jolanta Agnieszka Frankowska Qualified from: Lek Dent Katowice, Poland, 1993 GDC No: 84527
    Jolanta qualified in Poland in 1993, she relocated to the Isle of Wight 2004 and hasn't looked back since. Jolanta has worked both in NHS and the Private sectors within dentistry. she is keen to offer the patients a full range of options but always keeping their best interest at the forefront of the treatment plan. Jolanta offers denture of excellence here at the practice and is currently looking to do more work in line with orthodontic treatments, she is already able to offer treatment for simple cases who wish to do invisalign but is working towards carrying out more complex cases. In her spare time Jolanta loves to travel and is a keen walker, she is also extremely talented with her hands in the term of crocheting there is nothing this lady cannot make.
  • Mrs.Alison Swennson Qualified from: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene United Kingdom, 1995 GDC No: 3668
    Alison started of her dental career as a dental nurse, working for 2 years then being awarded 'Dental nurse of the year class 87'. She then went on to Study at Kings College in London where she was awarded 'Best Clinician' in class of 89. Further to these Alison has also completed further training in ID blocks and infiltration and Zoom Whitening. Hr main passion is prevention in dentistry and periodontal treatments. Alison loves to socialise when not working with friends and family and has a huge passion for dogs, she recently joined a group where you can walk other people dogs, who may not have the time to do so.
  • Mrs.Sarah Jane Banks (Hygienist) Qualified from: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene 1995 UK, 1995 GDC No: 4129
    Sarah qualified as a dental hygienist from Cardiff Dental School in 1991, gaining the British Dental Hygienist Association Award, Final Examination Prize and Clinical Prize. She has since undertaken training in additional duties and continues to study towards developing her career. Sarah has spent many years working in both private and NHS practices on the Island. Her free time is spent with her husband and two children. She enjoys gardening, aerobics, yoga and reading. Sarah is happy to see both patients registered with the practice or those wishing to see a hygienist who are not. Sarah has just recently completed a home teeth whitening course, so is hoping to build a portfolio for this in the near future.
