About mydentist, Market Street Shaw

Welcome to {my}dentist Market Street, Shaw. We are a recently expanded 11-surgery practice which caters for all, offering both NHS and private dentistry we can assure that we will meet your needs and expectations. From braces to dental implants, or if you are in need of a local dentist for a check-up, we can help you. We offer a range of private dental treatments to those looking to cosmetically improve their smile such as teeth whitening, composite bonding, orthodontic treatment including the popular clear brace system Invisalign. Plus, dental implants, minor oral surgery and facial aesthetics. Set in the heart of Shaw, our practice is a 1-minute walk from Shaw Town Centre bus stop and a 5-minute walk from Shaw and Compton tram station, with nearby free council car parking. At our practice, we are aware life gets busy which is why we offer a range of morning, afternoon, and evening appointments to suit your schedule. Our treatment coordinator Mollie is on hand to provide free consultations to patients who wish to explore their treatment options, discuss our wide range of finance options, and get a feel for the practice.     "I have just joined this dentist surgery with my husband and son and I am highly impressed. The dentist we saw was very informative, professional, chatty and extremely friendly. We explained our son has additional needs and may not cooperate but she was absolutely amazing with him and even looked up some flavourless toothpaste for him to make brushing his teeth easier. We got our next appointments within a week so no long waiting times to be seen next. The surgery it’s self was very clean and nice. The reception staff were also very helpful and lovely.     "The dentist was not my regular dentist but I first saw him November 2017 with a tooth infection. I was so impressed with him on my first visit that I asked to change over dentists. My visits to him have been ongoing as I needed root canal treatment & some work on deep cleaning my gums. I have been referred back to the dental hospital as my root canal was proving to be too technical & instruments required only held by the hospital dentist. Throughout my visits the dentist has explained everything thoroughly, & his care & attention has been fantastic. I was devastated to learn that he is leaving the practice, working just one day a week throughout April only. This is a massive loss to Mydentist. He is by far the best dentist I have come across in years. I wish you the very best of luck, you have a bright future."

  • Dr .Andrew Boon Qualified from: Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree Bristol, 2010 GDC No: 191783
    Dr Andrew Boon qualified from the University of Bristol in 2010 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree. During his dental career Andrew has worked within the private and NHS sectors and since qualifying, has completed numerous courses in the fields of occlusion, TMJ and social adult orthodontics. Andrew works at our practice Monday to Friday and sees a variation of NHS and private patients. He enjoys restoring teeth and creating smile transformations. Outside of dentistry, Andrew is an Oldham Athletic football supporter and attends the matches when he can. Andrew also enjoys running on the hills in his free time.
  • Dr .Karan Singh (Dental Implant Surgeon) Qualified from: BDS, MFDS Edin, MSc (wtih merit) Dental Implantology Manchester , 2006 GDC No: 102573
    Karan is very experienced and highly skilled in the fields of Oral Surgery and Dental Implants, having provided complex treatments in both primary and secondary care set since 2007, exclusively in OMFS, Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology. Karan is involved with teaching the next generation of Dentists. He is on the faculty for the OMFS and Dental Implantology MSc courses at the University of Manchester and is also a clinical supervisor for Oral Surgery Dental Core trainees at the Manchester Dental Hospital. You can expect seamless patient journey with meticulous treatment plans, constant and high quality communication and a team approach.     Weaam grew up and completed her primary schooling in Ireland. From there she developed and went on to study dentistry in the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU). Weaam has a special interest in restorative dentistry and has recently completed a PGdip in ARD from the University of Manchester. Weaam has been a valued member of our clinical team since 2016 and has worked in three different {my}dentist practices around the area. Weaams focus is to help patients understand the importance of their oral health, educate them about oral health techniques and work together to improve it.
  • Dr.Alice Louise Thornber Qualified from: BDS University of Central Lancashire England, 2019 GDC No: 284530
    Alice Thornber graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in biochemistry in 2014. She then decided to pursue a career in dentistry and qualified from UCLAN in 2019. After graduation, she decided to stay in the North West providing continued dental care to this area. Alice thoroughly enjoys working as a general practitioner, providing treatment to a wide range of patients. She particularly finds pleasure in ensuring that every patients visit is as comfortable as possible whilst further educating them about their oral health. In her spare time, Alice likes to attend the gym. She also likes to spend as much time with friends and family, attending music festivals and travelling.
  • Dr.Anuja Paymaster Qualified from: Lpool United Kingdom, 2004 GDC No: 100741
    Anuja qualified in 2002. Since graduating Anuja has furthered her knowledge by completing a Masters in Dental Sciences in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Liverpool in 2004. She has also undergone numerous professional courses throughout her long career in dentistry. Anuja undertakes all forms of dentistry, including both NHS and private work. She has a keen interest in replacing missing teeth with dentures and bridgework, as well as repairing broken teeth with crowns. Anuja enjoys cosmetically improving a patients smile with the use of cosmetic bonding. Outside of dentistry she enjoys travelling, practicing yoga, and spending time with family and friends.

    Dr Chang graduated from the Lithuanian University of Health sciences in 2019. In 2022, he qualified as an oral surgeon. During his residency he developed skills in the field of oral surgery, including impacted teeth extraction, dental implants, and emergency dental treatments. Dr Chang attended courses and training in Mir dental hospital for 6 months with Doctor Park Kwang Bum, the founder of the Megagen company, also learning digital dentistry. He believes understanding patients' needs and sharing good communication are most important. His main goal is to provide the best treatment options to the patients. During his spare time, he enjoys playing active sports, walking and traveling.
  • Dr.Jameela Akhter Qualified from: BChD University of Leeds 1997 Leeds, 1997 GDC No: 73225
    Dr Jameela Akhter qualified from Leeds Dental Institute in 1997. She has worked in the Park House Dental Practices, carrying out NHS and Private treatment, for over 20 years. As well as performing routine treatments such as fillings, root fillings, extractions and crowns to her NHS and Private patients, she has developed substantial experience providing cosmetic and aesthetic treatment options. Dr Akhter has many loyal patients who she has helped over the years. Her kind, approachable manner puts patients at ease so that they feel comfortable enough to receive the care they wish to receive. Dr Akhter will always act in the best interest of all her patients. She uses modern materials and equipment so that patients receive excellent care. Dr Akhter completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Restorative Dentistry in 2006 and has attended numerous training courses over the years, to maintain her knowledge and skill so that she can provide the latest evidenced based dental treatments for all her patients. Dr Akhter is greatly respected by her dentist colleagues and is able to provide advice and help to her peers.
  • Dr.Misagh Naderi Qualified from: Statutory Exam 2017 DDS Shiraz University of Medical Sciences 2014 Iran, 2017 GDC No: 275120
    Misagh studied dentistry at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences and graduated with distinction in the top 10% of the class of 2015. She worked in Shiraz's healthcare system before moving to the UK and qualifying here via the ORE Exam. She started working at {my}dentist right away. Misagh has always been interested in orthodontics and is keen on pursuing that. She has also developed an interest in facial aesthetics (anti wrinkle trearments) and smile makeovers and offers Invisalign and ClearCorrect teeth straightening solutions using clear braces, as well as Enlighten teeth whitening and SmileFast composite veneers. In 2021, Misagh was in the top 100 ClearCorrect providers in {my}dentist UK. Misagh also provides a range of cosmetic dentistry treatments such as teeth whitening, veneers, dentures and crowns.     Nosheen graduated from the University of Manchester in 2005. She later obtained an MSc (merit), also from the University of Manchester. She enjoys spending time with her patients, in particular reassuring any anxious patients. She has enjoyed working in the NHS and private sectors, however due to the COVID pandemic and many patients unable to access dental care she is currently focusing all her clinical time on her NHS patients. Nosheen is a friendly, approachable and down to earth dentist and strives to deliver high standards of dental care. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her children and is often the taxi driver!

    Dr Anwar studied at the University of Manchester, and after completing his undergraduate BDS degree, went on to complete further qualifications in general, cosmetic and implant dentistry and qualified as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He spent two years working in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery performing complex procedures such as surgical trauma and cancer operations. Dr Anwar also used his advanced skills and knowledge working at the Manchester Dental Hospital doing advanced restorative work including micoscopic dentistry. Dr Anwar has extensive experience in the field of oral surgery and Dental Implants. He has a keen interest in aesthetic treatments and has developed a wide range of skills in this area. He has a passion for aesthetic treatment which reflect in his attention to detail when performing surgical implants to improve patients smiles.     Tobias is a very motivated and dedicated general dentist, who does his utmost to provide the very best dental health, function and aesthetics for all patients. He believes empathy is a key ingredient to building mutual trust between dentists and patients to ensure a more accurate diagnoses and more caring treatment. Besides providing general dentistry Tobias has a special interest in gum health and a great passion for searching, researching and acquiring scientific and clinical knowledge. Mollie then worked as a float nurse around the {my}dentist practices in the Manchester region, before joining an orthodontic practice and developing her experience in orthodontic nursing. Mollie has recently developed her skills by gaining a Diploma in Dental Radiography and uses her clinical knowledge to discuss treatment options with patients, providing them with the time and care they deserve. She takes pride in building relationships with patients, putting them at ease and ensuring they have the best experience from start to finish. In her spare time, Mollie enjoys travelling, hiking and spending time with her family and friends.

    Charlotte-Rose Taylor. Dental Therapist. Since qualifying in July 2017 at the University if Birmingham school of dentistry, Charlotte moved back home to Yorkshire where she now provides care in areas such as Manchester, Huddersfield and Barnsley. Charlotte started working here at our Barnsley practice in May 2019, providing NHS and private treatments to our patients which include ZOOM whitening. Charlotte is very passionate about providing her patients with the best oral hygiene care and advises her patients how best to maintain good oral care at home. Charlotte is a valued member of our team with a fantastic approach to patient care.
  • Ms.Adele Hodgkins (Hygienist) Qualified from: Diploma in Dental Hygiene United Kingdom, 2001 GDC No: 5877
    Adele qualified from Manchester Dental Hospital with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene in 2001. Since qualifying, Adele has gained experience treating a variety of different patients in numerous dental care settings. She is an experienced and caring Dental Hygienist who takes great pride and pleasure in helping her patients achieve a healthy, clean mouth. Adele joined our practice in 2021 offering a dental hygiene service in oral health advice, scale & polishing, periodontal treatment and stain removal. Outside of work, Adele enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her friends and family and she also has a menagerie of animals including hens, pigs and sheep which keep her very busy in her spare time.
  • Ms.Georgina Hopwood (Hygienist) Qualified from: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene 1997 England, 1997 GDC No: 5204
    Georgina started her career as a dental nurse for nine years, after dental nursing Georgina decided to take the leap into a career in dental hygiene. Her career in dental hygiene began in 1997 where she studied Dental Hygiene at Liverpool Dental Hospital, completing a CEB Diploma in Dental Hygiene. Georgina is a valued member of our team and has worked at our practice for almost 27 years, since qualifying in 1997. Georgina enjoys spending her time raising her family and she especially enjoys watching her active son take part in a variety of sports including rugby, cricket and football! Georgina also enjoys helping out at her local amateur dramatics society where her daughter performs and often spends her spare time walking in Delph with friends and family.

What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a fixed solution for missing teeth that are the closest possible replacement for natural teeth. They involve one or more titanium screws being inserted into your jawbone to mimic a natural tooth root. Dental crowns are securely attached to these to fill the gaps in your mouth. Because dental implants are securely anchored in your jaw you’ll have the confidence to comfortably eat whatever you like.

  • Consultation Your initial consultation will be with either our Implant Surgeon or Treatment Coordinator (TCO), who can discuss the different types of implants, single or multiple depending on your need. Following this there may be a need for a more clinical focused consultation.

  • Diagnostic Scans We will carry out a number of digital scans, to build a digital 3D model of your mouth so we can get a clear picture of the area we will place the implant, and a more detailed X-ray using a Cone Beam Computer Tomography scanner so that our Implant surgeon can assess the state of the bone below the gum to get a really clear picture of your treatment need.

  • Treatment Plan Once our experienced implant surgeon has assessed all of you scans they will explain the nature of your treatment, the stages involved and costs. We offer flexible payment options to make implants even more affordable.

  • Commence Treatment Once you are happy we will begin treatment. The length and numbers of appointments will vary depending on the complexity of your particular need, but your Implant Surgeon will have detailed all of this in your treatment plan.

  • Implant Placed Once the implant(s) are placed it may be necessary it might be necessary to allow time for healing before attaching the replacement teeth. Once we are happy the implant has healed we will arrange a series of appointments to fabricate the replacement teeth.

  • Aftercare Your Implant Surgeon will advise you about looking after your implant and may well give you some painkillers to help with the pain over the days after your surgery as well as detailed advice about cleaning the implants and the teeth attached to them.

At mydentist we have the UK’s largest network of clinicians who will listen to your individual smile goals and deliver high quality, safe, convenient and affordable care.

We only work with dental clinicians

As well as our network of dentists we also have a UK-wide network of qualified orthodontists, should you need more complex treatment. While all of the dentists you will see are trained to provide teeth straightening with clear aligners, some patients might need to see a specialist orthodontist if their teeth are very crowded. Whatever your needs you can relax in the knowledge that we can help.

Clinically safe

All mydentist patients have their treatment overseen by a UK registered dentist. We will make sure that your teeth and overall oral health are in good shape before we start teeth straightening and check in with you regularly to make sure that the treatment is progressing as planned. That means you can rest assured that at the end of treatment your teeth will look and feel great. All of our practices are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the UK’s healthcare governing body, and are subject to the strictest clinical protocols.
