mydentist celebrates World Orthodontic Health Day

At mydentist, helping people smile is at the heart of everything we do – and our orthodontic division plays a vital role in making that happen. As one of the largest and most diverse orthodontic networks in the UK, we’re proud to support a community of clinicians, nurses, therapists and practice teams who are dedicated to improving lives through outstanding orthodontic care.

Celebrating World Orthodontic Health Day

This World Orthodontic Health Day, we’re shining a spotlight on just a few of the passionate people who are helping to shape the future of orthodontics at mydentist – and celebrating the stories, journeys and careers that make the division, and mydentist, so special to them. Their words reflect the ambition, respect and care that underpin everything we do.

Their experiences reflect the mydentist people values – we respect each other, we grow together, we achieve as one - and guide the way we work and deliver outstanding care to our patients every day.

These values are more than words; they shape how we develop careers, create supportive environments and empower our teams to thrive. Whether it's the drive to learn, the dedication to patient care or the pride in supporting colleagues, the voices in this blog perfectly show how our people values come to life – and why they matter so much in our orthodontic division.

Michelle Shambrook, Divisional Director – Orthodontic Field Operations

“The orthodontic division of mydentist has gone from strength to strength since it was formed in 2019. Recognising the unique needs of orthodontic patients, we have continued to adapt to ensure we can offer the service and treatment outcomes our patients deserve. We deliver hundreds of hours of treatments each year, supporting a countless number of children and adults through their orthodontic care.

I could not be prouder of the team that support our orthodontic practices, providing clinical and operational guidance, financial, people and marketing assistance, practical support with processing & procedures and encouragement in all areas of growth and development.

I am most proud of our practice teams, our outstanding managers, our brilliant nurses and orthodontic therapists, our skilled reception teams, talented treatment coordinators and our accomplished clinicians who take such good care of our patients and our businesses day in day out.

I am so very grateful to each member of our exceptional team, who work so hard to look after our patients and each other. A very happy World Orthodontic Health Day to you all.”

Michelle’s words truly reflect the care and respect that our teams show each other and our patients every day.

Sally Alwan – Clinical Development Advisor

“It’s so important that clinicians feel heard and valued. Having representation – a clinical director, a development advisor – means there’s always someone who understands what’s happening day-to-day in practice. Someone who knows what you need.

At mydentist, we're here to support clinicians. If there’s a new protocol or a new piece of kit, you’ve got someone to go to. It’s not just talk – it’s acted on. With over 500 practices, we’re the largest dental corporate in the UK. If you’ve got an idea or want to progress, this is the best place to do it. I can organise my clinics in a way that works for me. I don’t feel overwhelmed – and that’s down to the systems and the people I work with.”

Sally’s experience highlights our ambition to continuously improve and our passion for supporting professional growth.

Tomos Crandon – Specialist Orthodontist

“Working in a practice with mydentist is always memorable and always fulfilling. You’re a totally independent clinician, with a huge network of people around you. It’s a lot less lonely than working for an independent partnership or practice.

They’ve supported me with changing practices for something more convenient, offered different hours and new teams – but always with the same level of trust in my clinical decisions.

If my practice manager doesn’t know the answer, there’s always someone else in the network who does. There are so many people in senior roles who are looking after you and encouraging you to thrive.”

Tomos’s story is a brilliant example of the respect we have for clinicians’ autonomy and the care we take in making sure they’re never alone in their journey.

Rachael Hartley – Orthodontic Therapist and Clinical Development Advisor

“At our practice, we work in what's called a polyclinic setting – where we have three chairs in one surgery. We also have two separate private surgeries. I find it keeps the atmosphere fun, friendly and fast-paced. Especially because you have orthodontic nurses, orthodontic therapists and clinicians all working in the same space.

I'm so passionate about what I do, and I love working as an orthodontic therapist – so it's fantastic. I'd advise anyone to apply for a role in the mydentist orthodontic division. The support network is there to help – you can build the career that you want. Being an orthodontic therapist is so rewarding; it makes me feel like my hard work is worth it and I love to see that.”

Rachael’s enthusiasm reflects the passion and ambition that drive our orthodontic teams to thrive.

Emma Simpson – Newly Qualified Orthodontic Therapist

“I was inspired to start my apprenticeship as I love to learn new skills and knowledge – and I find orthodontics fascinating. I thought I’d struggle to keep up with my studies alongside working, but the way the apprenticeship was delivered made everything feel more manageable. I was still able to maintain a good work/life balance.

Completing my apprenticeship has given me a new career which I can’t wait to build on. In the future, I’d love to mentor or teach. I'll hopefully pass on my knowledge to other colleagues and students.”

Emma’s journey is a great example of how ambition is nurtured at mydentist – with support, care and respect at every step.

A closing message from Clinical Director, Danielle Rodgers

Last, and certainly not least, we're closing our celebration with a message from Danielle Rodgers, Clinical Director, here at mydentist: “As World Orthodontic Health Day approaches on May 15th, I would like to take this opportunity to express our immense gratitude to our incredible orthodontic practice teams. Danielle’s words echo the mydentist people values perfectly – passion for patient care, ambition to grow, respect for our teams and the communities we serve, and care at the heart of everything we do.
