The Orthodontic Centre is a Specialist Orthodontic practice located in the heart of Sheffield. We provide the highest quality of Orthodontic care in a welcoming and professional environment. The business has been in the area for thirty years and has been part of {my}dentist since 2015. It was originally established in 1988 by Alex Taylor. David Tinsley and Jonathan O'Dwyer joined as business partners in 2003 and continue to provide dental excellence. We offer a wide range of teeth straightening services for adults and children such as fixed braces, and Invisalign clear aligners. Our highly skilled clinicians can tailor innovative techniques to individual needs within a professional yet friendly environment to create beautiful smiles. We have two Specialist Orthodontists, David Tinsley and Jonathan O'Dwyer, both with over 20 years’ experience, who provide teeth straightening treatments to suit your needs, including fixed steel and ceramic braces, functional appliances (twin blocks), Lingual fixed, and Invisalign. Ortho Options - For a confident smile
Under 18's braces

It’s common for orthodontic treatment to begin in the teenage years, once all or most of the permanent teeth have come through. At that point it becomes clear whether someone might have dental concerns such as significant crowding, an over or underbite, or difficulty biting the teeth together which might affect eating or properly cleaning the teeth.

In cases where these issues are significant, braces will be available on the NHS. They assess who will receive braces according to a scoring system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, or IOTN score.

Some teens may not meet the IOTN score, in which case the NHS treatment is not available, or the waiting list in their area may be very long meaning they are unable to start treatment quickly. That is why we have a range of affordable private orthodontic treatments available for teenagers.

    Metal fixed appliances consist of small metal brackets attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements. The ties can be coloured giving you the option to customise the brace.

    Clear aligners offer a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, customised removable aligners that fit snugly over your teeth.   • Miss.Jamie Fielding (Orthodontic Therapists) Qualified from: Dip Orth Therapy Royal College of Surgeons Of England 2010 England, 2010 GDC No: 120838
    Jamie first qualified as a dental nurse in 1997 in general practice. She was quickly promoted to the role of Head Nurse. In 2003 Jamie started working here at The Orthodontic Centre where she gained further qualifications in Radiography and Orthodontic Nursing. Jamie decided that she wanted to train to be an Orthodontic Therapist and qualified in 2010 with a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy from the Royal College of Surgeons England. Whilst undergoing the training Jamie gained experience of working in Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and the Leeds Dental Institute. Jamie says how she thoroughly enjoys her role and seeing the results they create as a team, as we all work as one. When Jamie is away from work she is busy being a mother and loves getting outdoors with her boys.
  • Mr.David Tinsley (Smile by Design Limited) (Orthodontist) Qualified from: BDS, MDSc, MFDSRCS(Ed), MMedSci, MOrthRCS(Ed) United Kingdom, 1990 GDC No: 66247
    David qualified as a dentist in 1990 at Kings in London. In 1993 he obtained his first Masters degree from Dundee in restorative dentistry. He then spent several years at Leeds Dental Institute as a lecturer. He obtained his Fellowship in 2000, second Masters in 2002 and qualified as an orthodontist at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital before joining the practice as a partner in 2003. With David’s 20 years experience as a specialist orthodontist he has provided different treatment options including fixed appliance, both steel and ceramic and also invisalign. He is a gold standard invisalign provider and enjoys using this aligner system to create new smiles. David Embraces new technology and techniques as he’s always striving to expand his knowledge in upcoming advancements in Orthodontics. Out of work David is keen golfer and loves to spend time with friends and family.
  • Mr.Jon O'Dwyer (Smile by Design Limited) (Orthodontist) Qualified from: BDS, FDSRCS(Glasg), MMedSci, MOrthRCS(Ed) United Kingdom, 1990 GDC No: 65764
    Jonathan qualified as a dentist in 1990 from the University of Sheffield. After several years working hospitals and practices locally, he went on to the three-year specialist training programme, obtained my Masters in 2002 and qualified as an Orthodontic Specialist in 2003 joining the practice at this point. Jonathan is a member of the British Orthodontic Society and the British Dental Association and regularly attend seminars and courses to stay up to date with the latest orthodontic innovations. With his long experience in orthodontics he offers the full range of appliances including Invisalign, ceramic braces and lingual appliances and can offer the most appropriate treatment for your problem, lifestyle and income. Out of work Jonathan enjoys playing golf (but unfortunately not that well), going to the cinema, holidays in Cornwall and taking his dog out walking in the local woods and visiting the Peak District.
  • Mrs.Debbie Barker (Orthodontic Therapists) Qualified from: Dip Orth Therapy Royal College of Surgeons Of England 2008 England, 2010 GDC No: 125137
    Debbie qualified as a dental nurse in 1987. She then went on to gaining National Certificates in Orthodontic Nursing and Conscious Sedation Nursing. Debbie joined us here at The Orthodontic Centre in 2009 as a trainee Orthodontic Therapist working alongside the specialist orthodontists. She then qualified in 2010 with a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy at The Royal College of Surgeons London. Debs has been working in the dental field since leaving school. She has worked in NHS and private practice, the maxillofacial department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Out of work Debbie loves swimming, walking, reading and spending time with the family.
  • Mrs.Tania Murphy (Orthodontist) Qualified from: BDS, MMedSci(Oral Surg), MFDSRCS(Ed), MMedSci(Orth), MOrth, FDS(Orth), FDS(Orth)RCS(Ed) United Kingdom, 1996 GDC No: 71901
    Tania is a Specialist Orthodontist who has extensive experience providing high quality orthodontics. She is passionate about improving smile aesthetics for all. Since qualifying as a dentist from the University of Sheffield in 1996, Tania continued to develop her expertise and obtained her first Master’s degree in Oral Surgery in 1999. She was awarded her Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery in 2000 and in 2002 achieved her second Master’s degree in Orthodontics. Tania continued her development and in 2003 she achieved Membership in Orthodontics, from the Royal College of Surgeons, England, which led to her being recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC) as a Specialist in Orthodontics. In 2005 she gained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery (Orthodontics) of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Tania has recently stepped down from the role of NHS orthodontic consultant, a position she held for 16 years. Tania specialises in Invisalign and conventional fixed appliance systems and prides herself on working with the best orthodontic products on the market which is proven within the quality of her work. Out of work, Tania is a busy mum of two children. Her main passions are watching live music, food and travel.
  • Mrs.Yvonne Barber (Orthodontic Therapists) Qualified from: Dip Orth Therapy RCS Eng 2008 United Kingdom, 2008 GDC No: 117755
    Yvonne started as a trainee dental nurse in general practice in 1983. Qualifying in 1985. She then went on to work at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as a maxillofacial and orthodontic nurse from 1987 - 2007. Whilst working as a dental nurse she gained qualifications in national certificate in Orthodontic Nursing and Conscious Sedation Nursing. Yvonne started working with us at The Orthodontic Centre in 2007 as a student orthodontic therapist at Leeds Dental Institute 2007. She then trained in both our practices and the hospital qualifying in 2008 Diploma In Orthodontic Therapy from the Royal College Of Surgeons England. Out of work Yvonne enjoys her holidays, fitness and spending time with her family.
