Welcome to Sheffield Ortho Centre
Specialist orthodontist in Sheffield

The Orthodontic Centre is a specialist orthodontic practice located in a leafy inner city suburb. There are multiple restaurants, bars and boutiques in the area and it is a popular venue amongst the city's professionals. The business has been located in the area now for thirty years and is a feature of this thriving area of Sheffield. The Orthodontic Centre has been part of {my}dentist since 2015. It was originally established in 1988 by Alex Taylor. David Tinsley and Jonathan O'Dwyer joined as business partners in 2003 and Tania Murphy joined as an associate in 2004. They all continue to provide dental excellence. The practice has three specialist orthodontists, one consultant, four orthodontic therapists and a dedicated team of support staff. We offer both NHS and private treatment. NHS patients must be under 18 years old and can only be referred by their dentists. We provide standard fixed braces in steel and ceramic, removable appliances, functional appliances (twin blocks), Invisalign, C-Thru aligners, lingual fixed appliances (invisible braces glued to the inner surface of teeth), mouth guards and retainers.

What our patients say

"Couldn't be happier with the fantastic results Alex Taylor and his fab team have achieved with my daughter's teeth. I honestly didn't think it was possible to give her such a perfect set of teeth based on the crooked and overcrowded mess they were when we were referred there, and to top it all they're such a friendly lovely team too - we'll actually REALLY miss coming in to see you all! Heartfelt thanks from us both.. x x"

Ortho Options - For a confident smile
Under 18's braces

It’s common for orthodontic treatment to begin in the teenage years, once all or most of the permanent teeth have come through. At that point it becomes clear whether someone might have dental concerns such as significant crowding, an over or underbite, or difficulty biting the teeth together which might affect eating or properly cleaning the teeth.

In cases where these issues are significant, braces will be available on the NHS. They assess who will receive braces according to a scoring system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, or IOTN score.

Some teens may not meet the IOTN score, in which case the NHS treatment is not available, or the waiting list in their area may be very long meaning they are unable to start treatment quickly. That is why we have a range of affordable private orthodontic treatments available for teenagers.

Orthodontic treatments for teens

With our Ortho Options, we can provide a huge choice in private orthodontic treatment for teenagers, suitable for a wide range of budgets.

To see if it’s right for you or your teenager, you’ll first have a free assessment with one of our team who will explain the different treatments, what is involved and our finance options*. There are no long waiting lists, so if you are keen to go ahead we can book an appointment to see an orthodontist without delay and begin the treatment journey.

  • Metal
    fixed braces

    metal-braces

Metal fixed appliances consist of small metal brackets attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements. The ties can be coloured giving you the option to customise the brace.

  • Ceramic
    fixed braces

    ceramic-braces

Ceramic fixed braces are more discreet than metal braces and consist of small tooth coloured brackets attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements.

  • Clear
    aligners

    clear-aligners

Clear aligners offer a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, customised removable aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. Advanced technology allows you to visualise your completed treatment. This is a great option for those wanting a more discreet, wire free treatment.

Why choose Ortho Options

  • 1.Teeth straightening treatment provided for under 18s that don’t qualify for NHS treatment
  • 2.Free assessment with a treatment co-ordinator who’ll explain how it works
  • 3.If you do decide to proceed with treatment, another appointment will be arranged with the orthodontist, so we can take pre-treatment records, which include models of your teeth, x-rays and photographs for a more detailed assessment and a final treatment plan. Range of treatments available to suit all budgets, from traditional fixed metal braces to invisible, removable aligners
  • 4.No long waiting list
  • 5.Interest free finance available
