Sarah-Jane Davies, a member of the Regulatory Compliance team based in the mydentist Support Centre, will soon be heading to Malawi for 17 days to volunteer with the dental charity Dentaid — taking her 23 years of experience as a qualified dental nurse overseas for the very first time.
Volunteering with Dentaid
While this is Sarah-Jane’s first time applying to volunteer with Dentaid — and her first visit to Malawi — it’s something she’s wanted to do for a long time.
Sarah-Jane commented. “It’s something that I’ve always felt passionate about and wanted to do; however, due to family commitments the time was never the right time to apply.”
After more than two decades in dentistry, Sarah-Jane is excited to use everything she’s learned throughout her career to support families who need it most.
“I’ve learned so much over the 23 years with mydentist and to use this knowledge to educate families who need it most feels such an amazing thing to do.”
Being selected for the trip clearly means a lot to her. As she commented: “I am excited and humbled to be picked to be part of such an amazing charitable trip and to be able to make such a difference to deprived communities.”
For Sarah-Jane, the focus isn’t just on relieving pain — it’s about long-term impact. She commented: “As a qualified dental nurse for 23 years I feel I am able to offer great oral hygiene advice to all ages. For me it’s not just getting them out of pain but to educate families on how to maintain good oral hygiene.”
Donating to Support Sarah-Jane & Dentaid
Dentaid will provide everything the team needs for the deployment. As a charity, however, they rely on donations to cover essential costs — including travel — and to make opportunities like this possible.
Sarah-Jane is keen to highlight that every contribution makes a difference. She commented: “We are always looking for donations however great or small. Essentials for the community would be greatly appreciated.”
We’re happy to share that Sarah-Jane has already raised a significant amount of funds towards her goal, but if you would like to show your support donations are still incredibly welcome. Please donate via Just Giving using this link.
We’re proud to see Sarah-Jane taking her experience from both practice and the Support Centre to communities in Malawi. It’s a brilliant example of the compassion, commitment and care that defines all our teams here at mydentist.
