At mydentist Formby, Amy has spent nearly 20 years helping patients feel informed, reassured and supported throughout their treatment journey. As a Treatment Coordinator and qualified nurse, care is at the heart of everything she does — both in practice and beyond it.
Outside of work, Amy volunteers with Clover, her therapy assistant dog, visiting communities across the North West to bring comfort, companionship and moments of calm to those who need it most. Together, their story is one of kindness, connection and the difference small moments of care can make.
Supporting patients in practice
When asked about her role in practice, Amy commented: “I’m a Treatment Coordinator at mydentist Formby. I’m also a qualified nurse and I’ve been at this practice now for nearly 20 years. Day to day, I introduce myself to patients, book all their appointments and support them from start to finish. I make sure to provide a safe space for them. We discuss finance, go through all the treatment options and make sure they fully understand their treatment; this can be anything from implants and cosmetic work to root canal and periodontal treatments.”
Introducing Clover, Therapy Assistant Dog
Outside of work, Amy volunteers with Clover, her therapy assistant dog, visiting people across the North West and bringing comfort to a wide range of communities.
Amy commented: “Clover is my therapy assistant dog, and I’ve had her now for seven years. She gives a lot of joy, a lot of cuddles, and she’s just got a lovely personality.”
“We first found out that Clover was a therapy dog through my mum. She’s an end-of-life nurse and a nurse commissioner, and she was going into homes across the North West when patients were poorly. Clover would go with her, and we could see the difference she made.”
“Now we go to prisons, schools and mainly work with SEND children. We also do a lot of veteran work and go to places like Edge Hill University. We go everywhere with Clover, really, just making people feel better.”
Making a difference in the community
When asked what a typical visit looks like, she commented: “A typical visit is quite relaxed. People will play with Clover, play ball games, feed her, walk her, or just spend time with her. It’s really just about making people feel a bit better.”
“People are just so excited. They’ll play with her, feed her, walk her. She’s just lovely to be around.”
When asked whether there were any moments that had really stayed with her, Amy commented: “Probably in the nursing homes, with patients who aren’t very well, end of life. They haven’t seen animals for such a long time, and when Clover puts her head on the bed, they just absolutely love her.”
“I think Clover gives people joy and happiness. Especially for people who haven’t seen animals for so long — she fills that space a bit, giving cuddles and love.”
A shared approach to care
For Amy, there is a strong link between the role she plays at mydentist and the work she does with Clover. Both are rooted in helping people feel calm, especially in moments of vulnerability.
When asked whether she sees similarities between the two, Amy commented: “It’s about helping people feel calm. When people feel vulnerable, anxious or nervous, it’s about making them feel better — even if it’s just for a brief moment.”
“Clover’s taught me a lot about being patient, kind and caring. Some people don’t always know how to express themselves, and I’ve learned that if you’re just present, kind and give people a bit of time, they do open up.”
When asked what it means to bring something so meaningful into her life alongside work, Amy commented: “It means a lot to me. It makes you feel like Clover is making a difference to someone’s day, even if it’s just for a short time. Everybody loves Clover — everybody needs a bit of Clover.”
Support from the team at mydentist Formby
Amy says support from the team has been important too – and that Clover is just as popular with colleagues as she is out in the community. She commented: “The team love Clover. She’s been in loads of times and everyone just loves her. She’s got such a lovely energy and makes people feel better.”
“Across mydentist there are loads of colleagues who have passions and things they do outside of work. It’s nice because it brings everyone together and you can see what people are up to.”
Inspiring others to give back
When asked what she hopes people take away from hearing her story, Amy commented: “I hope it inspires people to maybe do something for their community. And to be a bit more like Clover: to be kind, patient and caring and just bring people joy.”
“I would definitely encourage people to give their time if they can. It’s very rewarding, and you get a lot of satisfaction from seeing how much joy it brings to people.”
