Welcome to {my}dentist, Plains Road Mapperley. You can find us on the busy Plains Road, just a ten-minute drive from Nottingham City centre. We are a seven-surgery practice offering a full range of NHS and private treatments including dental implants, teeth whitening, clear braces (Invisalign, Clear Correct), composite bonding, private dentures and many more. Our ‘state of the art’ scanning room offers intra-oral 3-D scanning and Dental Computerised Tomography (CT). We now offer free scans to patients that are interested in clear braces, free implant consultations and oral health advice to the community by visiting nurseries, schools and a variety of children’s centre. We look forward to helping you achieve your dream smile soon.

  • Dr .Barry Jay Sims (Dental Implant Surgeon) Qualified from: BDS Lond UK, 1992 GDC No: 68486
    Barry Sims provides dental implants at LDSC. Dr Sims graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas Dental Hospital in 1992 and has continued to develop his expertise and skills with a specialist interest in Restorative Dentistry and Implant Therapy Dr Sims achieved the Masters of Medical Science in Implantology from the University of Sheffield in 2008 Dr Sims is a highly experienced Implant surgeon specialising in surgical and restorative implant dentistry. With an exceptionally high standard of clinical care, Barry has placed more than 2000 dental implants using multiple implant systems as well as multiple bone graft and sinus lifting procedures. As a member of the Association of Dental Implantology UK and the European Association of Osseointegration, Barry receives continuous updates on the latest developments in dental implant technology that allow him to provide effective treatment in the most sympathetic and relaxed manner.
  • Dr.Amreen Akhtar Qualified from: BChD Leeds 2016 UK, 2016 GDC No: 264912
    Originally hailing from Yorkshire and graduated from the University of Leeds, Dr Amreen Akhtar has considerable experience in both NHS and Private practices. She has a particular interest in short term Orthodontics, currently offering Invisalign, Whitening and Bonding to change the appearance of teeth in the smile zone. Amreen finds nothing more satisfying that seeing a patient's smile transformed. Amreen loves meeting new people, and will always attempt to put you at ease, being bubbly and full of conversation, whilst focusing on the job of looking after your oral health. She considers herself a real foodie, and enjoys travelling.
  • Dr.Helga Martin (Trentham) Qualified from: BDS Sheff,United Kingdom, 1995 GDC No: 70703
    Dr Helga Martin qualified at Sheffield University in June 1995. She started working at Mapperley in August 1996. Since then, she has enjoyed all aspects of dentistry in general practice, finding it very fulfilling helping nervous patients to receive treatment. Helga went to Australia in 2006 for a year working in a small town in far North Queensland, providing a wide range of private dental treatments. She returned to our Mapperley practice in 2007. Over the next couple of year’s she became interested in teaching dentists, gaining a post graduate qualification with South Yorkshire’s Deanery in 2010 as an Educational Supervisor, and then continuing the role with Health Education East Midlands in 2014. She studied Clinical Education at Sheffield University in 2012, gaining a Distinction. In 2015, she took part in a six-month part time oral surgery course for General Dentists at Sheffield University. Over the years, Helga has continued to pursue a wide range of courses to develop and enhance her clinical skills and knowledge. She enjoys taking part in a peer review group. She is passionate about preventative dentistry.
  • Dr.Paul Fletcher Qualified from: BDS United Kingdom, 2004 GDC No: 83474
    Dr Paul Fletcher first qualified in 2004 at Birmingham University. he has worked with us since qualifying, and has a special affinity to the practice. He lives locally and has two children which attend nearby schools. Dr Fletcher is proud to provide NHS dental care for his local community. He also enjoys offering private and cosmetic dental treatments such as teeth whitening solutions. Paul is keen to update his knowledge and skills, and regularly attends lectures at the Nottingham Dental Society amongst others. Dr Fletcher enjoys sports and going to the gym in his spare time
  • Mrs .Marlini Rampersad Qualified from: Diploma Clinical Dental Technology Royal College of Surgeons of England UK, 2011 GDC No: 151248
    Marlini is an experienced and qualified dental technician and clinical technician with over 25 years experience in South Africa, USA and UK. She has worked in and managed commercial laboratories as well as trained and taught many student. Marlini qualified as a clinical dental technitian in 2011 through the KSS deanery gaining her qualification through the Royal College of Surgeons England. Marlini has extensive knowledge and experience with implant retained dentures as well as all phases of denture construction and provision directly to the patients. The knowledge of clinical and technical skills enables Marlini to provide denture care of the highest standard.
  • Ms.Karen Steele Qualified from: CEB Dip Dent Hygiene Ncle, United Kingdom, 1992 GDC No: 4328
    Karen Steele is a qualified and very experienced dental hygienist, who has worked in various NHS and private practices across the country. Karen attended the Kings College of London Dental School, where she qualified and gained a Diploma in Dental Hygiene in September 1992. Karen was also awarded the Oral B Prize Award for patient motivation. Karen is known for her gentle approach and unique qualities, especially in treating nervous and anxious patients. Karen is passionate about patient care and ensuring patients understand how to keep their smiles healthy in between dental appointments. Karen is also able to provide stain removal treatments such as airflow.

What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a fixed solution for missing teeth that are the closest possible replacement for natural teeth. They involve one or more titanium screws being inserted into your jawbone to mimic a natural tooth root. Dental crowns are securely attached to these to fill the gaps in your mouth. Because dental implants are securely anchored in your jaw you’ll have the confidence to comfortably eat whatever you like.

  • Consultation Your initial consultation will be with either our Implant Surgeon or Treatment Coordinator (TCO), who can discuss the different types of implants, single or multiple depending on your need. Following this there may be a need for a more clinical focused consultation.

  • Diagnostic Scans We will carry out a number of digital scans, to build a digital 3D model of your mouth so we can get a clear picture of the area we will place the implant, and a more detailed X-ray using a Cone Beam Computer Tomography scanner so that our Implant surgeon can assess the state of the bone below the gum to get a really clear picture of your treatment need.

  • Treatment Plan Once our experienced implant surgeon has assessed all of you scans they will explain the nature of your treatment, the stages involved and costs. We offer flexible payment options to make implants even more affordable.

  • Commence Treatment Once you are happy we will begin treatment. The length and numbers of appointments will vary depending on the complexity of your particular need, but your Implant Surgeon will have detailed all of this in your treatment plan.

  • Implant Placed Once the implant(s) are placed it may be necessary it might be necessary to allow time for healing before attaching the replacement teeth. Once we are happy the implant has healed we will arrange a series of appointments to fabricate the replacement teeth.

  • Aftercare Your Implant Surgeon will advise you about looking after your implant and may well give you some painkillers to help with the pain over the days after your surgery as well as detailed advice about cleaning the implants and the teeth attached to them.
