Welcome to our practice. We offer specialist orthodontic care to the people of Doncaster and beyond. We offer NHS teeth straightening treatment for children after qualification under the Department of Health advised Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need. Private treatment is available for both adults and children. Our orthodontists offer removable braces, fixed metal, tooth-coloured and champagne-coloured braces and Invisalign clear aligners. On completion of treatment, we offer standard and Vivera retainers to help maintain your new smile. Digital scans are used helping to reduce the impressions needed for your care. At the practice we understand that our patients have very busy lives therefore we offer Monday and Tuesday evening appointments, along with early morning opening. Easy payment methods are available (subject to credit and status checks). Our Treatment Coordinator is available to talk you through your options. Metered parking is available directly outside the practice. Our team of highly qualified orthodontists, orthodontic therapists and advanced nursing team use the latest technologies and materials and are devoted to delivering the highest quality of care.

Under 18's braces

It’s common for orthodontic treatment to begin in the teenage years, once all or most of the permanent teeth have come through. At that point it becomes clear whether someone might have dental concerns such as significant crowding, an over or underbite, or difficulty biting the teeth together which might affect eating or properly cleaning the teeth.

In cases where these issues are significant, braces will be available on the NHS. They assess who will receive braces according to a scoring system called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need, or IOTN score.

Some teens may not meet the IOTN score, in which case the NHS treatment is not available, or the waiting list in their area may be very long meaning they are unable to start treatment quickly. That is why we have a range of affordable private orthodontic treatments available for teenagers.

    Metal fixed appliances consist of small metal brackets attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets. The wires are then used to move the teeth into the desired position giving the orthodontist control over the tooth movements. The ties can be coloured giving you the option to customise the brace.

    Iconix braces are a sophisticated and elegant alternative to traditional braces. These braces are made of stainless-steel champagne-coloured brackets that provide aesthetics of rose gold attached to the teeth with a wire tied into the brackets.   • Dr.Damian James Bourke (Orthodontist) Qualified from: FDS,FFD,LDS,MDO,BChD United Kingdom, 1989 GDC No: 64952
    Dr Damian Bourke has many years of experience in delivering excellent standards of orthodontic care and treatment. His understanding is the key to achieving the best result for each individual. Damian uses this information to tailor orthodontic treatment to meet the needs of his patients, giving them a result in which they have had a part in creating. He believes that giving someone the confidence to face the world with a big smile can make a huge difference to their life, whatever their age. Damian understands the need for a person to express how they feel about their smile and discuss what they would like to change and improve. He places importance on a result that his patients feel comfortable and confident with whilst creating happy and confident smiles.
  • Dr.Fiona McKeown (Orthodontist) Qualified from: BDS,MOrth,FDS RCS United Kingdom, 1992 GDC No: 67813
    Fiona is an Orthodontist and has worked here at The Orthodontic Centre since graduating in Orthodontics in 2000. Fiona has won two national orthodontic awards in recognition of her clinical excellence. The Optident Prize 2000; awarded at the British Orthodontic Conference to the person showing the best M.Orth cases judged on difficulty, clinical management and documentation. The Maurice Berman Prize 2003 awarded to any member of the British Orthodontic Society for demonstrating by stage photographs the highest level of clinical ability in the treatment of a patient to an ideal result.
  • Dr.Leone Giacosa (Orthodontist) Qualified from: DDS, MOrth Italy, 1997 GDC No: 79022
    Dr Giacosa qualified with honours in 1997 and attained his Orthodontic Specialisation 3 years later again with honours. He is on the Specialist list in Orthodontics of the General Dental Council. Dr Giacosa has been published in several Orthodontic journals and has lectured both nationally and internationally. His special interest in multidisciplinary approach means he works closely with other specialists to solve the most complicated treatment plans successfully. In addition, he has extensive training in lingual braces (hidden brackets), Invisalign and cosmetic braces (ceramic brackets) as well as functional appliances for growing patients. Outside of dentistry, Dr Giacosa is a keen tennis player and he is passionate about theatre and classical music. He also plays the piano and he is studying the violin.
  • Dr.Nadia Ahmed (Orthodontist) Qualified from: BDS University of Sheffield 2007 United Kingdom, 2016 GDC No: 114329
    Nadia is a Consultant Orthodontist at Rotherham General Hospital alongside working at the practice here in Doncaster, South Yorkshire as a Specialist Orthodontist. She offers Invisalign and fixed braces for both children and adults and strives to provide the best possible orthodontic treatment for her patients, ensuring the patient journey is a positive experience. The journey to become a Specialist and Consultant Orthodontist was across the Midlands and Yorkshire, gaining a wide range of experience in various hospitals. Nadia gained the MOrth qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons England in 2016. In 2018, further training in Birmingham Dental Hospital to become a Consultant led to the FDS (Fellowship in Orthodontics.) During her training, she particularly enjoyed treating patients needing multidisciplinary treatment (Orthognathic surgery or hypodontia) as well as regularly attending cleft clinics with the multidisciplinary team. Nadia has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education and has a passion for teaching. She has been involved in a number of textbooks for postgraduate dentists.
  • Miss.Kirsty Richardson (Orthodontic Therapists) Qualified from: Dip Orth Therapy RCS Eng 2009 UK, 2009 GDC No: 124428
    Kirsty started working at the practice in 2002 as a trainee dental nurse. Since then she qualified as an Orthodontic Dental Nurse and finally qualifying as an Orthodontic Therapist graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009. Kirsty has completed extra training with Align Technologies which allows her to work with our Invisalign providers. She strives to achieve the highest standards with continuous professional development (CPD) courses and learning. Kirsty enjoys helping her patients achieve a smile that they are happy with and can leave feeling confident and transformed. Kirsty is a long standing and well-loved member of the team.
  • Mrs.Sara Calder (Orthodontic Therapists) Qualified from: Cert in Dental Surgery Assisting NEBDSA 1984 Dip Orth Therapy RCS Eng 2008 UK, 1980 GDC No: 112334
    Sara has been working in dentistry for over 39 years starting as a dental nurse in 1980. Sara qualified as an Orthodontic Therapist in 2008 at Leeds Dental Institute Sara and was one of the first qualified Orthodontic Therapists in the UK and used her knowledge and experience to train and support trainee Orthodontic Therapists. She was one of the original team who set up the practice in 1999. Sara has also trained to work alongside our Invsialign providers within the practice. Sara’s gentle nature makes her perfect for dealing with patients who need a little extra time and care.
  • Ms.Jennifer Dent (Orthodontic Therapists) Qualified from: RSC Ed Dip Orthodontic Therapy UK, 2020 GDC No: 129768
    Jenny has been involved in Dentistry for nearly 20 years. Beginning as a Dental Nurse and training in many different aspects and gaining qualifications in Radiography, Sedation and Orthodontic Nursing. Developing a passion for Orthodontics and under the tutelage of our specialist Fiona she attended the University of Manchester to complete her Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy in 2020. She loves to see our patients develop confidence as their smile is created. Her happy, positive attitude shines through and both patients and staff love her. Outside of work, Jenny spends time with her young family who enjoy Tennis, Football and Skiing.
